Enacting loan forgiveness legislation for dental school faculty
Enacting loan-forgiveness legislation for dental school teachers
Making New York State more competitive both for attracting and retaining candidates in dentistry.
Why we stand behind it
The average debt of U.S. dental school graduates has grown to nearly $250,000. While private practice dentists can make between $174,780 as a general practitioner and $322,200 as a specialist, dental school salaries are only $93,667—a pay gap that can be difficult to overcome.
We support legislation that would provide up to $40,000 per year in loan forgiveness for dental school faculty for up to four years. This would help make New York State more competitive both for attracting and retaining candidates in dentistry.
