Patrick M. Lloyd Appointed Dean of the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine
Stony Brook University has named Patrick M. Lloyd, DDS, MS, as Dean of the School of Dental Medicine (SDM). Lloyd’s appointment, effective July 1, was announced by Hal Paz, MD, executive vice president of health sciences at Stony Brook University and chief executive officer, Stony Brook University Medicine. Lloyd joins Stony Brook after a decade spent as the dean of the College of Dentistry at Ohio State University. Read more.

Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College Holds School-Wide Research Day
Touro College of Dental Medicine held its Research Day on May 5. Months in the making, the day consisted of multiple events incorporating students, administration, faculty, and staff. A full day of programming kicked off with a luncheon with Touro University President, Dr. Alan Kadish, followed by TCDM’s first Poster Competition organized and led by Dr. Jaffer Shariff, Director of Research and Assistant Professor of Dental Medicine at TCDM. Read more.
Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College Celebrates Commencement
The third class of graduates from Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) celebrated their commencement with a live Awards Ceremony followed by a Hooding and Commencement Ceremony at New York Medical College on May 25, 2022. Graduates were thrilled to have the opportunity to return to a fully-in-person Awards Ceremony and Hooding and Commencement Ceremony. Read more.

Columbia University College of Dental Medicine Partners with SMILE Health
The College of Dental Medicine (CDM) is partnering with SMILE Health, a program that identifies and accelerates oral health startup companies championing new solutions to solve oral health inequities. CDM is currently the only academic dental center to join the SMILE Health initiative, which is led by CareQuest Innovation Partners, with MATTER, a health care incubator, and other industry partners. Read more.

Eastman Institute For Oral Health, University of Rochester Awarded $3.5 Million for First-of-its-Kind Study
UR Medicine’s Eastman Institute for Oral Health has been awarded a $3.5 million grant to conduct a first-ever study that will examine early-life biological factors related to severe tooth decay among underserved racial and ethnic minority groups. Although largely preventable, Early Childhood Caries (ECC)—severe tooth decay among young children—affects one third of socioeconomically disadvantaged and racial/ethnic minority preschool children in the U.S.. Read more.
NYU College of Dentistry’s Dr. Nicola Partridge Receives $2 Million NIH Grant—Will Mark 30+ Years of Continuous Funding for Parathyroid Hormone Research
Nicola Partridge, PhD, professor of molecular pathobiology, has received a $2 million, five-year grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), part of the National Institutes of Health. The grant will continue to support her research on parathyroid hormone (PTH), which has been continuously funded by NIDDK since 1995. Read more.
University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine Receives $550,000 Grant to Provide Dental Care to People who are Homeless, Uninsured in WNY
The UB School of Dental Medicine has received a $550,000 grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to provide dental care to individuals who are homeless, as well as underinsured families in Western New York, populations who are disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding will provide nearly 100 days of free dental care, including at the Buffalo City Mission to individuals who are homeless. Read more.

NYU College of Dentistry: New Issue of JADE Online Now
A new issue of NYU Dentistry’s online, open access magazine, the Journal of the Academy of Distinguished Educators (JADE), is online now. The new issue invited clinical faculty across departments at NYU Dentistry to respond to the question: “How did you adapt your teaching in response to the COVID-19 pandemic?” It takes as its title “COVID & the Curriculum: Faculty Perspectives,” and features stories that derive from the Zoom-enabled Clinical & Educational Showcase hosted in January 2021 by the Academy of Distinguished Educators. Read more.
