NYU College of Dentistry Awarded $1.5 Million to Prepare Dental Students to Care for Underserved Populations
NYU College of Dentistry has received a nearly $1.5 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to prepare dental and dental hygiene students to care for underserved populations, including people with disabilities and expectant mothers. The funding will support a new program, Preparing the Future, which is designed to address the national workforce shortage of dental professionals providing primary care dental services to vulnerable populations. Read more.
Delta Dental Foundation Provides Grant to Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in Support of VETSmile Collaboration
The Delta Dental Community Care Foundation has awarded Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (CDM) $125,000 to support its work in providing quality, affordable oral healthcare, specifically in support of CDM’s collaboration with VETSmile. This is a program of the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) Center for Care and Payment Innovation, which connects eligible veterans with community dental care providers. Read more.

Eastman Institute For Oral Health, University of Rochester: Dr. Eliav to Graduates: Don’t Lose Sight of the Big Picture
During this year’s graduation ceremony, Eastman Institute for Oral Health Director ​​Dr. Eli Eliav talked about how the many obstacles the pandemic created, the local and global divisiveness, and how all the violence contribute to the hectic and stressful times we’re experiencing. Research

NYU College of Dentistry Research Explores Oral Health of Vulnerable Women During Pregnancy
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) is funding research at NYU Dentistry to better understand the oral health of vulnerable pregnant women and the barriers they face to receiving dental care. The research—supported by a $2.1 million, four-year grant—is led by Stefanie Russell, DDS, MPH, PhD, clinical associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Health Promotion and the project’s principal investigator, along with NYU Dentistry co-investigators Shulamite Huang, PhD, and Richard Heyman, PhD. Read more.

NYU College of Dentistry: Dr. Kara Gross Margolis Named Associate Director for Clinical and Translational Research and Director for Brain Gut Research at the NYU Pain Research Center
Kara Gross Margolis, MD, has been named associate director for clinical and translational research and director for brain gut research at the NYU Pain Research Center, effective June 15, 2022. Dr. Margolis is a pediatric gastroenterologist with internationally recognized clinical expertise in brain-gut axis disorders including autism spectrum disorders (ASD). She has also been appointed a tenured associate professor of molecular pathobiology at NYU Dentistry. Read more.
