Dr. Ronnie Myers, Dean of Touro College of Dental Medicine, has been named to the Board of Trustees of the ADEAGies Foundation. NYU College of Dentistry: White Coat Ceremonies Held for the Classes of 2023 and 2024
After the postponement of White Coat Ceremonies for many months due to Covid-19, NYU Dentistry was able to celebrate the transition from didactic education to clinical education focused on patient care for the members of the Classes of 2023 and 2024 at two White Coat Ceremonies held on Sunday, November 20. The happy occasion underscored the College’s commitment to celebrating this essential touchpoint in the students’ journeys to become doctors, although a little later than usual. Read more.

Eastman Institute For Oral Health, University of Rochester: Ithaca Man Travels to Eastman Institute for Complex Dental Treatment After Cancer Surgery
By the time the surgeon was done removing the cancer in the base of his mouth, Jack Reid only had three bottom teeth left. The surgeon also had to remove a significant portion of surrounding tissue. Thankfully, no radiation or chemotherapy was necessary and his upper teeth remained intact. Read more.
University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine: Miles for Smiles Delivers Crucial Dental Care to 1,000 Children in Lebanon
More than 1,000 children at schools and Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon recently received free dental care and education through the UB Global Miles for Smiles program, a long-running mission led by director and UB faculty member Othman Shibly to deliver critical oral health care to marginalized communities in need around the world. Read more.

University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine: The Evolution of Mucus: How Did We Get All This Slime?
From the slime coating slugs to the saliva in our mouths, many slippery bodily fluids contain mucus. So how did this marvel of biology evolve? In mammals, the answer is many times, and often in a surprising way, according to a new study on proteins called mucins. These molecules have a variety of functions, but as a family, they are known as components of mucus, where they contribute to the substance’s gooey consistency. Read more.
NYU College of Dentistry: Dr. Habib Benzian Co-Edits First Ever WHO Global Oral Health Status Report
The World Health Organization (WHO) has published its first-ever Global Oral Health Status Report, which creates a comprehensive picture of oral disease burden with data profiles for 194 countries and provides unique insights into key areas of oral health. The report — co-edited by an editorial team that included NYU Dentistry’s Dr. Habib Benzian — shows that almost half of the world’s population (45% or 3.5 billion people) suffer from oral diseases, with three out of every four affected people living in low- and middle-income countries. Read more.
