Touro College of Dental Medicine Celebrates Grand Opening of the Albuquerque Campus

September 16 marked the official ribbon cutting of the new TCDM clinical training facility on the Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The new 70,000 square foot facility houses more than 100 dental units accommodating students who will be completing their education and clinical training in New Mexico. New Mexico’s first pre-doctoral dental educational/clinical facility supports its first class of 100 students and provides affordable dental care services to communities across the state. University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine: Oral Biology Postdoc to Examine Periodontal Disease Through AI Lens

A University at Buffalo researcher will employ artificial intelligence (AI) to better understand periodontal disease development and progression. Lu Li, a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Oral Biology in the School of Dental Medicine, was recently awarded a $993,098 Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) from the National Institutes of Health. Read more.

NYU College of Dentistry: In Quest for Better NSAIDs, Researchers Decouple Inflammation from Pain

Research from the NYU Pain Research Center has identified which receptor in prostaglandins—the hormone-like substance targeted by common painkillers—causes pain but not inflammation. The findings, published in Nature Communications, may help researchers to develop more selective drugs to treat pain with fewer side effects.

“Inflammation and pain are usually thought to go hand in hand. But being able to block pain and allow inflammation—which promotes healing—to proceed is an important step in improved treatment of pain,” said study author Dr. Nigel Bunnett, professor and chair of the Dept. of Molecular Pathobiology and a faculty member in the NYU Pain Research Center. Read more.
