University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine Cuts Ribbon for New Mobile Dental Clinic
The School of Dental Medicine has unveiled a new, 40-foot-long mobile dental unit, the second in its fleet of traveling clinics that will expand dental care to thousands of people in Western New York. Operated through UB S-Miles to Go, the new mobile dental unit is equipped with two dental chairs, a state-of-the-art panoramic X-ray unit, digital radiography, a sterilization center, wheelchair lift and electronic health record system. Read more.

NYU College of Dentistry is celebrating the first anniversary of the Veterans Oral Care Access Resource (VOCARE), part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ VETSmile program. VETSmile is a pilot program that is designed to improve access to dental care for veterans who are not eligible for dental benefits through the VA by partnering with community providers like NYU. Read more.

University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine to Offer Free Care to WNY Vets in Honor of Veterans Day
The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine hosts Dentistry Smiles on Veterans, an annual program that welcomes local veterans to receive a day of free dental screenings, cleanings, extractions, restorations and denture repairs. NYU College of Dentistry Researchers Among Coauthors of Study That Reveals How Female Bones Permanently Change After Giving Birth
In a study that appeared in the journal PLOS ONE, researchers, including NYU Dentistry’s Dr. Timothy Bromage, professor of molecular pathobiology, and Dr. Bin Hu, adjunct assistant professor of molecular pathobiology, revealed that female bones permanently change after giving birth. The research, based on an analysis of primates, sheds new light on how giving birth can permanently change the body. Read more.

University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine: $7.8 Million Awarded to UB and Partners to Study Influence of Oral Microbiome on Cancer-Linked Oral Thrush and HPV
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research has awarded two grants totaling more than $7.8 million to the University at Buffalo, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine to explore the influence of the oral microbiome on both the risk of developing oral thrush during cancer treatment and the risk of infection with cancer-linked human papillomavirus (HPV) among people with HIV. Read more.
Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine: Swanson Named Junior Educator of the Year by American College of Prosthodontists
Patricia Swanson, DDS, FACP, clinical assistant professor and director of predoctoral prosthodontics at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, has been named Junior Educator of the Year by the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP).
