NYU College of Dentistry and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to Provide Dental Care for Veterans with Blood Cancer
NYU College of Dentistry has received a significant gift from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to create a pilot program to provide financial support for dental care for U.S. military veterans with blood cancer who are not eligible for dental care through the Veterans Administration. Care will be provided at the NYU Dentistry Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities, where the staff are trained with special skillsets to ensure quality treatment and holistic care for people with disabilities and complex medical conditions. Read more.
Eastman Institute For Oral Health, University of Rochester: Dr. Alexandra Tsigarida Elected Board Trustee for American Academy of Periodontology
“Dr. Alexandra Tsigarida is a natural leader and I am delighted that she earned the district’s confidence to serve in this new capacity,” said Dr. Jack Caton, chair, Eastman Institute for Oral Health’s Periodontology Department. He is referring to EIOH Associate Professor Dr. Tsigarida’s latest accomplishment of being elected a Trustee of the American Academy of Periodontology’s Board of Directors in its 7th District, representing New York and New Jersey. Read more.

NYU College of Dentistry: Dr. Nigel Bunnett Appointed Assistant Dean for Research Development at NYU College of Dentistry
Nigel Bunnett, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Molecular Pathobiology at NYU College of Dentistry, has been appointed assistant dean for research development, effective September 1, 2022. Dr. Bunnett will continue to serve as professor and chair of the Department of Molecular Pathobiology at the College. “As a world-class research scientist,” said Brian Schmidt, DDS, MD, PhD, senior vice dean for research development and academic affairs, “Dr. Bunnett will establish the long-range vision for the research program at NYU Dentistry. He will be responsible for the facilities, infrastructure, and personnel required to continue to strengthen NYU Dentistry as a premier research institution. Eastman Institute For Oral Health, University of Rochester Forms Partnership with Galilee Medical Center
As part of the new collaboration between Eastman Institute for Oral Health and the Galilee Medical Center’s Galilee College of Dental Sciences, Dr. Hala Karayanni-Matanis is participating in a fellowship at EIOH this summer. Earlier this year, Dr. Karayanni-Matanis finished her residency in Oral Medicine at the Galilee College of Dental Sciences. During the three-month program at EIOH, she is working closely with the educational, clinical and research components of the Orofacial Pain Division, as well as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Read more.
